Business Sales Tips

Tag: Businessadmin @ 10:24 pm

Business is all about averaging and crunching numbers and statistics. Usually, when dealing with these elements, people tend to devise strategies and techniques that work and employ them, but they usually never go beyond that. This creates a safety zone where they are assured of a profit, but there are ways where they can expand that safety zone without risking any monetary loss:

Try to do all the “extra things” that could generate extra sales no matter how little it is. A great example of this is when fast food clerks try to ask if you want some fries with your order or if you want to go large. Most people get annoyed being asked while some already included the stuff with their order and in the long run, there are more rejections than there are people who wanted additional fries or a larger drink, but remember that it doesn’t cost any money for the clerk to ask, yet every single person who said Yes is automatically an additional sale.

Don’t lower your prices in an effort to gain more sales. This is a bad idea, most especially if your business is not large enough to sustain losses, or if you’re just starting out. Remember that business is more about making a profit than making a lot of sales. If you sell a lot of products or services because of reduced prices, a simple number crunching may reveal that you actually ended up losing more than if you just sold fewer for a higher price.

Lowering prices also has a big risk, since a rival competitor with more resources and the ability to weather losses can create a similar product and price it lower to compete with your products. You will end up losing your entire market share and as soon as you go bankrupt, the competitor will just close their cheap product line. The competitor lost some money but they got rid of a competitor and now have the market for themselves. With the absence of a competitor, they can even raise their prices higher than before.

Another negative aspect of lowering prices too much is that it gives buyers the impression that your product or services are sub par, since people usually associate price with quality.

Build Customer Loyalty. Businesses are also about long-term profits so you have to make sure that a sale will be a positive experience for the buyer so that he or she will come back in the future. This is why tricking customers into buying is never a good idea even if it results in a lot of highly priced sales, because the amount of time you have is limited and highly inconsistent. Once word of mouth does its magic, you will be out of business and you can say goodbye to profits. Whereas selling legitimately good products will only get you more sales as word gets around, and tends to build a system where your profit increases the longer you stay in business.
